FACTS Movie of the Month is the new block buster, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, starring James Franco and his leading lady, Freida Pinto. This is an exciting movie that lived up to its summer release expectations! The movie is much more of a psychological thriller than an action/adventure as it takes the movie-goer down the road to question science, sociology, and other under tones hidden in the movie’s deep façade. Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a remake of the 1960’s and 1970’s original big screen movies and television series films, Planet of the Apes.
Franco, playing his ambitious and brilliant character, Will Rodman, develops a revolutionary formula that unnaturally fights neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease to restore synapses in the brain. This bleeding edge technology rejuvenates links in the mind to a greater mental capacity than before while allowing an individual to reach impressive feats even in old age! However, Will did not realize just how successful his formula had become as it also increases the intelligence of his apes to unbelievable heights. But, once Will opens Pandora’s Box his new found drug has many unexpected side effects that will change the fate of mankind forever.
It sets the stage for a new generation of similar movies to come where it shows the movie-goer how it all got started, before the inception of intelligent apes ruling planet earth. The special effects are not bad either as they will take you on a visual ride of impressive feats. Taking an Avatar approach, digitizing the apes, the movie creates a human-like comparison of the apes mannerisms and disposition similar to that of a man. However, unlike Avatar, Rise of the Planet of the Apes is not in 3D and is in regular 2D format. Will man, or the ape win in this battle of the future of Mother Earth or will they both potentially destroy each other in the process? Know the FACTS!
